How to Coil Cables: The Over-Under Method
If you wrap a cable around your elbow, you are twisting the copper inside. Eventually, it will break. More importantly, when you throw it on stage, it will coil up like a spring instead of laying flat.
The Over-Under Method
This technique involves twisting the cable in one direction for the first loop, and then reversing the twist for the next loop. This neutralizes the torque on the cable.
Why It Matters
1. Speed: An over-under cable uncoils instantly without knots. Crucial for fast changeovers.
2. Longevity: Cables last years instead of months.
3. Respect: If you help a local crew load out and you elbow-wrap their cables, they will never hire you again.
